Amidst all the excitement over the Indian Premier League, things are not going well for Pakistan Cricket. Though the team has done quite well in the past few months, the off-field issues have taken over and have eclipsed their on-field performances. This is a negative sign for the side that won the Champions League in 2017.
Too good a player to be left out
Consistent performers in the domestic circuit are rewarded with a place in the national team. However, the case of Fawad Alam has been different.
The national cap has eluded him for a long period and his exclusion from the Pakistan squad for the England and Ireland tours did not go well with Younis Khan.
The former Pakistan cricketer also added that if he were the captain of the side, Fawad would surely be in the team.
“He is unlucky that, despite scoring [massive runs] in first-class cricket, he is being ignored.
When we toured England in 2016 under Misbah’s captainship, we [managed to draw] but didn’t win the series.” Younis Khan was quoted as saying by geo.tv.
The former cricketer added that the young team under Sarfaraz Ahmed could struggle in foreign conditions.
Fawad has often been criticized for his batting conditions but Younis has refuted such arguments and said that there is nothing wrong with the all-rounder’s technique.
Fawad is 32 years old and has been waiting to get his chance for a long time. Age should not be a factor in determining his selection as his selection brings in tons of experience to the squad.
Misbah played until he was 42 and Yours himself played until 39. Thus, age must never be a hurdle for selection.
The veteran also added that the selectors must make a decision based on the wider interests of the team and one person’s opinion must not become the basis for any decision. Chris Godwin Authentic Jersey
