Bookies approached two players during PSL 2018

The match-fixing scandal has already destroyed a lot of Pakistani cricketers’ careers and now its onus has shifted to the 3rd edition of the PSL. The Pakistan Super League is currently being conducted in the UAE and the tournament has already produced some magical cricketing action in the last couple of days.

But if the reports in the ANI News are to be believed, a few bookmakers have managed to approach a couple of players playing in the PSL this season.

Much to the delight of the fans and the Pakistan Cricket Board, those two cricketers have apparently foiled the request made by those bookmarkers and have decided to abide by the rules and regulations of the League.

A senior PCB official has confirmed that the players were approached by these bookies through certain social media platforms. “A couple of players were approached through social media apps but they did not respond to the bookie and reported the matter to us.We are watching out for the culprits,” the PCB official.

The second instance of Fixing allegations on PSL

This isn’t the first time PSL is facing these allegations. Last year, Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan were handed a 5-year ban after they were found guilty of spot-fixing and other violation of the board’s anti-corruption code.

The players can be taken under custody if they fail to follow three main rules of the anti-corruption code – luring cricketers into spot-fixing, not reporting approaches by the bookies on time and hiding information regarding his contacts with the bookies.

Fast bowler Mohammad Irfan and all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz too were suspended for 12 and 2 months respectively. They failed to report the approach by bookies on time due to which they found themselves under the hammer.

Shahzaib Hasan is another cricketer facing the suspension, which also includes an Rs. 1 Million fine.

The PSL action has turned to Sharjah currently, which previously was the host of various match-fixing controversies. Sharjah and Dubai will be hosting all the PSL League games scattered over a period of 22 days. Sean Mannion Jersey
