The Royal Challengers Bangalore recently registered a very crucial win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Bengaluru. Their overseas players came to the party with AB de Villiers, Moeen Ali, and Colin de Grandhomme scoring very well with the bat. The fourth overseas player, Tim Southee, had a bad night though. He conceded runs in excess of 10 runs per over.
And he went wicketless in the game. Now, after the game is done and dusted, the rough run continues for Tim Southee. Reportedly, Southee has been reprimanded for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.1.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials on Thursday (May 17).
The news was confirmed by the BCCI is their recent media release.
The media release, however, dit not reveal any details about the same and hence, it is tough to comprehend the reason behind the actions taken by the officials.
But, it is very much understood that the sanction was made following the actions of Tim Southee to the decision made by the third umpire in the game.
The controversial decision
During the third over of the match, Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Alex Hales heaved one in the direction of deep square leg boundary.
Southee, who was positioned there, came running forward and took a diving effort to get hold of the ball. He was confident that he had taken a clean catch and the RCB team started to celebrate.
However, the on field umpires decided to go upstairs to get the decision confirmed. The soft signal given by them was out.
The third umpire, Shamsuddin, was not happy with the conclusive evidences and decided to overturn the decision and ruled it not out.
A very unhappy RCB skipper Virat Kohli was seen surprised at the call. Tim Southee, too, was totally unhappy with the decision and showed his gestures of disbelief.
It is understood that his gestures have seen him face these sanctions. He has accepted the sanction and hence, there will be no further hearing in the case.
Crashing the stumps
Furthermore, the reports suggest that the sanction could have come up owing to the disrespect Southee showed the cricket equipment in the game.
In the 19th over of the game, Manish Pandey clobbered one down the ground and Grandhomme let the ball slip through his legs. Southee looked visibly unhappy with it and crashed his hands on the stumps. Mark Lowe Womens Jersey
